Parts and methods of blood collection during screening of newborns for diseases

Screening of newborns for diseases refers to the screening of all newborns for congenital metabolic diseases and heel prick test endocrinopathies that pose serious risks through blood tests, so that the affected children can be diagnosed early and treated clinically.

Early clinical treatment can prevent damage to the brain, liver and kidneys, resulting in growth and developmental dysfunction and even death.

When collecting blood, it is best to choose the inner and outer edges of the foot, needle blood, should be massaged or heat applied to the foot causing local congestion.

If the needle depth is less than 3mm, wipe off the first drop of blood with a sterilized dry cotton ball, the blood comes in contact with the filter paper sheet and the blood naturally seeps into the back of the filter paper.

Two blood spots larger than 8mm in diameter are required. Do not repeat the blood drops in the same area.

If too few drops of blood and insufficient filling will affect the test results, the filter paper used should be consistent with the filter paper used for the test standard quality control.

Dry the filter paper with blood in clean air, put it in a sealed plastic bag and store it in a refrigerator at 4 degrees.
