A Brief Overview: Online Credit Card Processing.
One of the most common shopify payment gateway methods is via credit card. Of course, Shopify must comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (pCIDSS).
The pCIDSS standard applies to all businesses that accept, process, store or transmit credit card information to ensure a secure environment. The main issue for e-commerce vendors to be aware of is that these laws and regulations force most credit card payment gateways to use markup. When customers enter credit card information on the website, the credit card details are not stored on the e-commerce website. Instead, they are hosted in a payment gateway system. When a customer chooses to save credit card details for future purchases, and then returns for more purchases, the credit card information is retrieved from an authorized gateway server in the form of an API (application programming interface) - consisting of letters and numbers - representing the information.
Authorize.net is one of the most common payment gateways. Providers (and many other third-party payment gateways) use customer information management (CIM) services to process credit cards on a regular basis. The CIM service allows customers to save billing, payment and shipping information in the form of tokens for future use of orders.
Thanks to the token, the customer does not need to re-enter and send his or her information. He can also choose between multiple credit cards if he wants to store multiple cards.
The CIM system thus simplifies pCIDSS compliance by storing sensitive payment data on the payment provider's secure servers. The customer's credit card information is completely stored in the Authorize.net system. When you are ready to charge the customer, you will use the CIM module to retrieve the details of the credit card.By:Elizabeth
